UNESCO ~ Malacca / Melaka

The Stadthuys was built in 1650 as the official residence of the Dutch Governor.
It now houses the Historic Museum and Ethnography Museum.
Also in the photography is the Christ Church built in 1753, and another fine example of the Dutch architecture.

Built in 1511 by the Portuguese, the A Famosa suffered damages during the Dutch invasion, leaving only its gateway as the hallmark of Malacca today.

UNESCO in China ~ Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area

Located in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province.

Jiuzhaigou is reputed as a "fairyland", it features an integration of green lakes, multi-layered waterfalls, forests and snow-mountains with Tibetan culture and customs. The water of Joiuzhaigou is widely known for its crystal-clearness, pure transparency and rich colours.

There are rich floral resources here, and many kinds of rare animals, such as giant panda, snub-nosed monkey, and swam.

*****************************
I been to this place in year 2003.
We took about 1 day bus from the city to this UNESCO site.
Eventhing was worth as ......we all was stunned and stopped our breathe when we first seen the little lake ('Hai Zhi'). I never saw such beautiful scene in my life.
Each and every Hai Zhi was so blue and green and all of us can see thru the seabed.

'Hai' = Sea / Ocean
'Zhi' = Children
So, they call the little lake as the little Ocean.

Northern Light

Northern Light above the Talkeetna Mountains.

I had dreamed about Polar Light when I was young.

Auroras, sometimes called the northern and southern (polar) lights or aurorae (singular: aurora),is also called the northern polar lights which are natural light displays in the sky, usually observed at night.

The phenomenon of aurora is an interaction between the Earth's magnetic field and solar wind.

UNESCO in China : Mt HuangShan

Situated in the southern part of Anhui Province in eastern China, Mt Huangshan is one of the top ten tourist attractions and destinations in China, combining he characters of many famous mountains in China. There goes a saying : " Having seen the all-inclusive Huangshan Mountain, one does not wish to see any of the five major mountains. " Huangshan Mountain owns its unique scenic value to four major factors : rare pines, grotesque rocks, clouds sea, and hot spring. The marks of long history and rich culture of the mountain could be found her and there.

My friend told me that she spend about 3 days 2 nights in climbing and enjoy scenery of Mt. Huangshan.

Hill of Crosses, Siauliai, Lithuania ( Happy PFF)

I was intrigued & shocked when I received this postcard from Lithuania ~~ A hill full with crosses. Tens of thousands of crosses planted on a hillside in Lithuania.

Thank you Gintare to sent me this postcard.

The Hill of Crosses, Kryzių Kalnas, located 12 kilometers north of the small industrial city of Siauliai (pronounced shoo-lay) is the Lithuanian national pilgrimage center. Standing upon a small hill are many hundreds of thousands of crosses that represent Christian devotion and a memorial to Lithuanian national identity.

During the Soviet era, many of the thousands of crosses there were destroyed by Communist authorities or looted for scrap material. But since Lithuania declared independence in 1990, the Hill of Crosses has become not only a tourist attraction, but also a national symbol.

The size and variety of crosses is as amazing as their number. Beautifully carved out of wood or sculpted from metal, the crosses range from three meters tall to the countless tiny examples hanging profusely upon the larger crosses.

I love what Gintare (Gleska) wrote to me on the postcard, “ This is an expression of a spontaneous, religiousness of the people, and in a symbol not of grief and death but of faith, love and sacrifice.

Happy PFF

Perfect outing day to Tanjong Sepat ( a small fishing village in Selangor) last week.

However, we were not able seeing this kind of clear blue sky this week. The sky were shrouded in haze produced by a large number of fires burning in Indonesia.

I smell the burning yesterday :(

Human, please do appreciate the only EARTH that we have today.

St Kilda - Village Bay from Rueval

Lying 80km west of Harris, St Kilda was first occupied by man nearly 6,000 years ago, and finally evacuated by its natives in 1930, only to be re-occupied later by the Army and the National Trust for Scotland. This unique archipelago of four islands is the eroded remnant of a Tertiary volcano some 60 million years old.

St Kilda was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1986 in recognition of its Natural Heritage; for its exceptional natural beauty and for the significant natural habitats that it supports.

In July 2004 this was extended to include the surrounding marine environment.

In July 2005 further recognition for the islands cultural heritage was awarded making it one of only a few places in the world with Dual World Heritage Status for both its natural and cultural significance.

I think the arrangement of the village look alike some signal / signs when looked from the top of hill.

Thank you to Sarah to send me this beautiful UNESCO postcard and the stamps too.

Silk Road # 2 ~ Flaming Mountain, Turpan

If you had read about the famed Chinese novel of 'Journey to the West', when the Tang monk Xuanzang and his three followers reached this place, fires raged for hundreds of miles. One of his followers, the Monkey King extinguished the fire with a magical palm fan whisked from the throat of the ever-protective Iron Fan Princess.

Flaming Mountain appeared to be the hottest place of China. We were travel from the coolest place ( TianShan Tianchi ) to hottest place ( Flaming Mountain) in the same day.

The sun's rays are reflected off the red rocks, as though the hillsides are engulfed by tongues of fire.

I still remember the number of steps ~ to climb 1308 steps in order to reach one of the peak.

Arggg... my poor injured knee.
