Postcard Giveaway : The Heritage Jewel of Penang, Malaysia

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, or Khoo Kongsi for short, is one of the most distinctive Chinese clan associations in Malaysia. It is well known worldwide for its extensive lineage that can be traced back 650 years, as well as its closely-knit and defensive congregation of buildings and a magnificent clanhouse.

Khoo Kongsi, together with Cheah, Yeoh, Lim and Tan Kongsi, were known as the Five Big Clans (Goh Tai Seh) that formed the backbone of the Hokkien community in early Penang. Since mid-19th century, having identified their respective bases, these kongsi rooted themselves in an area stretching from Chulia Street Ghaut in Georgetown to the lower part of Beach Street in the south. With the respective clanhouses as the nuclei, these kongsi demarcated their territories with their own terrace houses on three or four sides of the perimeters. This adjoining, closely-knit and defensive model settlement, like a clan village in the colonial city, is a rare form of congregation practised among migrant communities.

City of Fountains

Dedicated to the developer of Kansas City, Missouri's Country Club Plaza district, the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain features four heroic horsemen. The fountain, lighted at night, was sculpted in Paris in 1910 by the late Henri Greber.

The lights of the Westin Crown center Hotel and the fountain of water geysers invite visitors to relax and shop in Crown Center Square, located in Kansas City, Missouri.

* After about 2-3 weeks of my hectic work assignment, I'm finally come back to postcard-wonderland.

Costa Rica's Tamarindo Beach

Tamarindo is among the most popular vacation destinations in Costa Rica. A former fishing village in the northern regions of Guanacaste province on the North Pacific Coast.

Tamarindo Beach is part of a bay formed by a cape, Cabo Velas (velas is Spanish for sails, or sailfish). Playa Grande lies to the north of Tamarindo Beach inside the bay. The two beaches are separated by a natural salt water estuary, Estero Tamarindo. South of Tamarindo Bay there is another beautiful estuary and beach, Playa Langosta.

Fort St Michael, Malta

A fort of that name was built by the Knights of Malta between 1551 and 1565 on the peninsula then known as Isla St Michael formed by Dockyard Creek and French Creek in Grand Harbour. The Grand Harbour was very important for the Knights because it was a natural harbour, which was ideal for their fleet.

This area is still known as L-Isla, but is now occupied by the fortified city of Senglea.

John Zarb, Senglea send me this wonderful postcard of Malta.
Thank you, sir.
